This study compares the serum biochemical effects of Datura metel seed extract and lidocaine hydrochloride as anesthetic agents in West African Dwarf buck goats undergoing orchidectomy. Castration is a common practice in goat husbandry aimed at reducing aggressive behavior, improving meat quality, and preventing undesired mating. The study evaluates the impact of these anesthetic agents on key biochemical parameters, including liver and kidney function markers, to assess their safety and efficacy. Findings indicate significant differences in serum biochemical responses between the two anesthetic agents, with Datura metel showing potential anesthetic properties but also raising concerns regarding its effects on organ function. This research provides valuable insights into alternative anesthetic options for small ruminant surgery in resource-limited settings.
