A pituitary hormone called prolactin (PRL) is necessary for many bodily physiological processes. In addition to being crucial for the start and continuation of lactation, it also appears to play function in brain function, behavior, metabolism, immunological regulation, osmoregulation, growth and development, and reproduction. The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a group of cardiometabolic risk factors that includes insulin resistance, hypertriglyceridemia, obesity, and hypertension. Materials and Methods: A study was conducted on 60 individuals aged 35-50 years, including 20 healthy individuals and 40 individuals with chronic diabetes. Samples were collected from Abu Ghraib General Clinic in Baghdad in 2024 in Abu Ghraib, Iraq. Lipids, uric acid, urea, and creatinine were measured using an Apple spectrophotometer made in Japan, while glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was measured using an iChroma device. The insulin test used a sandwich immunoassay method, while Prolactin was measured using Elisa kits. Results: There were no significant differences between the groups under study, but there was a significant difference (p≤0.001) between the groups and healthy people. In conclusion, prolactin might be a useful biomarker for diabetes mellitus diagnosis.
